What pupils need to
know
 |
As stated in the
requirements section, pupils need regular access to a computer.
 |
Pupils who cannot do
this at home are expected to stay after school to use the computers and to
logon to the website. |
|
 |
I expect pupils to
logon to this website every day when coming into class. |
 |
I also expect pupils to
transfer all their work from their home computers into their personal school
folders on the network EVERY DAY. |
 |
I do not accept, as an
excuse for homework which is not handed in on time, that "It's on my
computer at home, Miss". I have no way of checking your child's
computer at home. EVERYTHING for CAT which is on a pupil's home
computer must be transferred into his school folder the very next day. |
 |
Pupils will not know
when I decide to mark a document electronically. This could be any
assignment which they were have completed by the deadline. Sometimes I
mark these electronic versions myself, and sometimes we do peer marking. |
 |
For the above
reasons, I feel it is important for your child to have .....
 |
... a flash disk.
 |
We have upgraded
our main lab with computers which have only USB ports - no A: or D:
drives for stiffies or CD ROMs. |
 |
The computers in
the CAT labs have USB cables so that pupils can use their flash disks. |
 |
Flash disks are
getting cheaper all the time. |
 |
If your child
brings his own flash disk, he/she should also bring the driver, in case
our system does not support that particular brand. Our network
administrator will be happy to install the driver on the server for your
child. (Note of caution: we have found that
some makes of flash-disk simply will not work on our system.
Contact me for further information.) |
|
 |
?....
Internet access
 |
I know that this is
not possible for every household, but we will accommodate your child in
the Internet lab every afternoon (except Friday), provided that he
writes his name on the list before second break. |
 |
There are occasions
on which I expect pupils to email me their homework, but as we only
teach Internet and Email in the 3rd term, I expect them to use flash
disks for data transfer until then. |
|
|
I
trust that together we can make your child's CAT experience an enjoyable and a
fruitful one. I love teaching the subject. The classroom has a
relaxed atmosphere and, provided that pupils co-operate and don't break the
rules, we can establish a good relationship. We usually have a lot of fun in
the CAT class, but the idea is to LEARN the appropriate knowledge, and the
learning comes first. |
